I'll admit that I don't know a lot about former New York governor, Mario Cuomo. He was governor before I moved to New York and I haven't heard too much about him since I got here.
But I think I like him.
An article in yesterday's New York Times says that Cuomo refuses to pose for a portrait to be hung in the State Capitol's Hall of Governors. Why? In his words:
"It's a bit like naming things after governors or other officials. My view of the governorship is, yes, I was the governor, but whatever good things that were done in my 12 years as governor were done by an army of us."
Hold on. He doesn't want a pretty picture of his face hung up and he doesn't want stuff NAMED after him either? Are you saying he just became governor to HELP people?
Madness.
Turns out if he doesn't pose for a portrait, the building's historian has threatened to use a picture of his choosing and warned that the one he picks might not be flattering to the former governor. Cuomo's response?
"I'll make a deal with him. I'll get him the first lady. Matilda's picture, now that's something that's worth putting up."
